![]() The boys were off to a solid start in Tuesday nights contest against Montreal. They came out onto the ice flying and ready to go leaving the first period with a 2-0 lead over the Canadians. With early goals by Ryan Spooner and Christian Herhoff the Bruins had their fans fooled that they might take this W home with them. With all of our regulars back in black and gold rather than the colors of their respective countries, this was the first game where we were able to see the full squad out there, and it was surely looking promising. Nearing the end of the second period the Canadians management to put one between the pads of Rask. As Rask's first game back with the team, a few too many goals were put past. Jeff Petry made the first dent onto the Canadiens scoreboard with 6:31 left up for the period and then right behind him came another puck to the back of the net from Artturi Lehkonen to tie things up. As the battle started to see who could make it all the way to the finish line, both teams battled it out in the only way they know how to play against each other. Physically. These two teams are known for their rough and tough games, and they always seem to be crowd pleasers, and this was no different. Czarnik took advantage in the third when Montreal took a penalty taking the lead for the game but yet again nothing is concrete because Canadians Galchenyuk came right back to tie things up yet again. Dan Carr's shot at the end of the third ultimately sealed the deal for the red and white lifting the game to a 4-3 victory for Montreal. Coming off of last years less than successful season who were the top guys and what can we expect from them this coming year? 1) Patrice Bergeron Coming off of last season as the top scorer and the wearer of the big ole' A on his jersey, Bergy management to put up 68 point on the season staying relatively consistent with his last six years with the team. With 32 goals, a record breaking season high for the forward, and 36 assists it's easy to see the kind of player Patrice is and the reason he wears that A on his left shoulder. With the power to score along with the power to set up the plays he's truly a quite force to be reckoned. Having recently signed Patrice to another long-term contract it's safe to say that Bergeron is going to a lifer in black and gold and as a fan, I couldn't be happier. Hopefully within the next few seasons we can witness Bergeron net his 1,000 career goal, with 820 at the conclusion of last season he's inching his way closer to the exclusive club. 2) David Krejci Krejci continues to show hockey players that it's not all about the pucks you put into the back of the net. With 63 points this past season, Krejci netted just 17 goals with the remaining 46 points recorded as assists. Jumping up 25 points from the 2014-2015 season, it seems that Krejci found some new spark in his skates that we hope he brings along for the ride in the upcoming season. 3) Brad Marchand Well, we sure haven't forgotten to talk about him in the past but let's just reiterate the assets we have on our hands here. With 61 points on last years season, and the majority of his point coming from goals (37 goals, 24 assists), I think we can all agree that Marchand knows how to get it done. With the help of lineman Patrice Bergeron, the duo is able to capitalize when necessary and that's exactly what Bruin's management is looking for in the upcoming season.
After Wednesday's 5-1 loss to the Red Wings the Bruins went on the road to Detroit for revenge. This time, taking home the overtime win. Falling behind in the second period 1-0 with a power play goal by Red Wings' Riley Sheehan the B's found themselves behind for yet another game until the third. University of Denver prospect Danton Heinen came out again to add another goal to his NHL repertoire with a backhander getting between the posts for his second goal in three preseason match ups. Ryan Spooner helped in the contest with a slap-shot in the opening minute of overtime playing giving the black and gold their first W of the preseason.
The guys immediately hit the road again on the road to Philly where the faced the Flyers for game four. Subban took the game between the pipes and charted his first win with a .906 save percentage allowing three shots past the pads. Backes and Pastrnak were helpful in the contest putting up three points a piece with Pastrnak being the top scorer of the game with two past Neuvirth, Flyer goaltender. Heinen yet again came into play making a real statement during the preseason putting the Bruins ahead at the start of the first period to record his third goal in just four games. Will Heinen stay down at Providence this season or will Claude take the chance and move him up to the big leagues? |
